MACROSS -Shooting Insight- is a premium action game from KAMINARI GAMES Inc and Bushiroad. It’s the latest entry in MACROSS’s arcade shooter series, taking charge of the titular spacecraft that can switch between different forms. With its classic bullet hell elements, save the galaxy from monsters that aim to conquer it.
MACROSS -Shooting Insight-’s solid storyline, multidirectional set designs, and astonishing 2.5D visual treatment is a treat for fans of classic arcade and modern sci-fi action video games. This game is similar to titles such as Contra: Operation Galuga or Galaga (1981), due to sharing similar mechanics.
Beyond a simple rescue mission
MACROSS -Shooting Insight- and the entire series’ key feature is the titular spacecraft, with its ability to switch between a spaceship form, a mecha form, and a hybrid of the two. The games and series in this franchise follow a fictional Earth and its dealings with the rest of the Milky Way and beyond. This game follows the same general premise, although your specific mission revolves around rescuing the missing songstresses.
This game features high-resolution graphics in a 2.5D environment. This makes the spacecraft appear more stylish and even the bullets more visually appealing, adding to the immersion of the game. Its clearly outlined storyline is equally engaging, thanks to its use of anime-style character designs appearing in between stages. Also, the set design is worth mentioning. Unlike traditional left-to-right shooters, this goes in different directions, adding challenge and variety.
Lastly, the sound effects fit every moment perfectly, with the soundtrack and voice-over work rounding up the game. It even features reworked soundtracks from different games in the franchise. The only catch in this game, however, is that it is only available in Japanese, both in voice work and subtitles with no localizations. Also, the controls can be tough to master at first, but once you’ve mastered it, it’s great overall.
